Always remember that whichever side that you feel is most comfortable is often the best side to sleep on. Why, you may ask? Well, it is often better for getting a good night’s rest. This tends to trump anything else. Waking up refreshed with your body able to rest and heal at its best during the night is the most important thing.
Sleeping on your side often keeps your airways slightly more patent. Sometimes if you find one airway is blocked, sleeping on the opposite side often can help open it up. Sleeping on your left side may improve circulation a bit, therefore can also be recommended during pregnancy to get more blood to the heart.
Again though, don’t forget, some individuals may have back pain or leg pain or neck discomfort and sleep better in another, different position. This is best because getting a good night’s sleep is always better.

I know that sleeping on your stomach is the worst. I did for years and it ended up making my back hurt. I purchased a body pillow to support me while I sleep on my sides. This has really helped my back no matter what side I am on.
