Recently I became aware that one of the doctors who orders the traction pillow from us actually doesn't just sell the pillow in her office. She has some patients use it in the office for gentle in office traction. This is how important it is to put the neck in alignment and free up the nerves.
This is a great thing to do because you may prescribe someone neck traction to do at home but they may not do it. Having them use the pillow in the office means we know they are doing it, and also we can see if something is being done correctly.
I knew a couple offices that would only do in office traction for this reason. As the doctor you also want to see results, and this way you know that the patient is clearly doing their traction.
Why is this so important? Putting that curvature back in the neck is essential for relieving nerve pressure. When the normal curve is there the spinal cord is relaxed and the discs sit properly between each cervical vertebrae. This "C" curve also allows the holes on each side of the spine stay wide open for nerve roots to travel.
