If we have inflammation in the neck causing pain, the pillow will help that inflammation dissipate and pain will be reduced. Using the pillow helps put the normal c-curve in the neck from the side and put the spine straight from the front to back.
Putting that spine in optimal alignment allows for the best motion. This let's inflammation dissipate appropriately. Normal alignment also keeps the nerve pathways as open as possible.
Therefore whatever you do, try to maintain the best alignment. This starts by using a good support pillow when sleeping. Then try to maintain a healthy posture while up; and also be cautious of continued poor working positions.
