Looking at our neck or cervical spine, we have a series of bones that stack up on each other; 7 cervical vertebrae in fact. C2-C7 have a disc in between them and a nerve root that exits near them.
Our neck spine should be straight up and down when looking at it from the front or back. This is referred to as the A-P view on an X-ray or other enhanced image. From the side, or lateral view, we should have a smooth flowing C-curvature. The c should open toward the back; I say that because some individuals actually have a reversal of their curvature.
