New research from the journal Neurology suggests that sleeping greater than 8 hours per night increases your risk of stroke.
Here's the thing though - do you get 8 hours of sleep. I would still shoot for 8 hours because it sometimes takes some time to get to sleep, you might get up once or twice during the night, etc...
They found, a couple years back, that sleeping too little wasn't good either. In fact that seemed to increase your risk for a heart attack.
I would suggest getting 7-8 hours. This seems to be the current recommendation, and best approximate sleep time.
