Your brain and spinal cord make up what we call the central nervous system. Pressure here can cause even more significant problems than pressure on a more distal nerve. The tail of the brain is referred to as the brain-stem; the spinal cord is often called an extension of the brain-stem. In a live human this "brain-stem" can even extend as far down as our third cervical segment.
