Hi, I will very soon be having ACDF surgery on the discs C3-C4 and C4-C5, as I have very severe spinal spondylitis. I am looking for a suitable pillow, and wondered if you could recommend one for me? I have looked at the Arc4 Life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow Large, on your website and wondered if this would help me? I would be very grateful for any help and advice you could give me.
Many Thanks, kind regards Popsie
Dear Popsie,
Thank you for your email. After your fusion surgery, you will not be able to extend your neck back, so you will not be able to use the "Traction V " part of the Arc4life pillow. You will be able to use the other side though (the support side).
(For my readers, an ACDF surgery stands for "Anterior cervical discectomy and fusion". This surgery functions to remove a herniated or degenerative disc in the neck. A surgical cut is made in the front throat area to reach the front of the spine. Once there, the disc is removed and a graft is inserted to fuse together the bones above and below the disc the surgeon is working on. Usually, patients go home the same day and the recovery time takes 4 weeks. Often times this surgery is recommended for patients with pinched nerves, stenosis, bulging disc etc.)
A better pillow to recommend would be the Arc4life Linear Gravity Neck Pillow which has two neck rolls on it: one smaller and firmer, the other broader and softer.
