Not MyPillow, Not any Pillow Can Claim to Cure Everything: The MyPillow Fraud

One pillow can't be the end-all and be-all for everybody.

Arc4life has been in the pillow business since 2003 and in that time we've helped many customers and patients with choosing the right pillow for the condition that they have going on. That being said our Arc4life pillows and other pillows that we sell don't work for everybody.

In that time since 2002, many pillows have come and many have gone. But one stands out that was extra troublesome. MyPillow. The pillows that Claims to Cure a Lot of Random health problems.

In just the last few years, the Internet, blogs, late night tv, certain tv stations have been inundated with commercials from a pillow called my pillow. This Minnesota company claims that their pillow helps with such things as:

restless leg syndrome
insomnia migraine headaches
sleep apnea
cerebral palsy
acid reflux
menopause
other conditions

Just last week, 10 California California lawyers sued mypillow in Oakland California saying that the company was using deceptive and false advertising to make people buy their pillow. We can totally believe this. As a blogger and seller of pillows since 2003, even we got many phone calls and emails from customers stating that my pillow did not work from them and that they paid a lot of money for that pillow.

Mypillow story shows you what money can buy.... and it's not relief. Countless celebrities such as Neil Patrick Harris Sugar Ray Leonard, Frankie Muniz and even Donald Trump endorsed mypillow.

One of the most deceptive things that came out of this lawsuit is at my pillow promoted itself as the official pillow of the National Sleep Foundation. Come to find out they paid the National Sleep Foundation to get that endorsement. Actually, mypillow is still on their website as them being their official pillow.

Finally the creator of my pillow claimed to be a pillow expert however he has no health training to his background. In fact he called himself to sleep expert.

The mypillow company was hit with civil penalties in the amount of $1 million for false advertising.

Update January 4, 2017

The Better Business Bureau (BBB) just downgraded Mypillows rating from A+ to an F because of false marketing. The BBB claims that that the Buy one get on free promotion is deceptive and confusing to customers. The company violated advertising Code.

There are many reasons as to why I prefer this pillow over other contoured pillows on the market today. First I like that it is made out of polyester fiber fill. The Pillow For The One Who Want Something More Gentle

"I need a soft soft pillow - but i still want support in my neck- nothing too firm". This article is about that someone who just wants a gentle supportive neck pillow. A neck pillow with some "give" to it. Not hard like a rock. You would think that there are lots of choices out there for this. But no, this is not the case. Gentler often just means no support or a FLAT - especially when it comes to a fiber neck pillow.

This can mean the senior by the way. I didn't really come out and say that because everyone is so different. Some like a firm pillow, some like a soft one.

But you must know that as you get older there is a greater chance of arthritis building or degeneration building up. If you have suffered from a whiplash injury due to a car accident, you may have had degeneration in your cervical spine for many years. Any type of degenerative changes in the neck can mean more pain and a decreased range of motion.

The Natural Alignment Pillow may fit your needs. First, it's very gentle. This works very well with the more sensitive neck, being softer and a lesser height than most.

Next, it's fairly low (meaning the height or profile is less). This can work very well for someone with, not only a more sensitive neck, but a more arthritic neck too.

How Long to Test Out My Pillow to See If It Works?

Recently, we received a request for a return of the Stress Ease Cervical Neck Pillow from a customer who used it for one night. Here was the feedback from our customer:

"used couple of hours at first night my neck had bad pain and stiff.. Can t use it." - KJ Feb 2016

Usually it can take a few days to a few weeks to get used to a new pillow. When you first receive the pillow, we do not recommend you use the pillow the entire night. Just start with 5-10 minutes the first night and keep increasing the time. The pillow can cause you some neck soreness and muscle spasms, because you are engaging different neck muscles when you have your head in a different position (using a new neck pillow places your head and neck in a different position than you are used to, especially if the pillow is a contoured neck pillow).

The Tri-Core Family of Pillows...

Here I am doing a video on the tri-core pillow. These are very popular pillows and work very well. I have seen many patients and gotten direct feedback. This fiber filled pillows have a unique trapezoid center that provides two different neck rolls. These pillow will help to align your head and neck in the most natural way. One thing to remember, is that for some patients, it will take a while to get used to this pillow. They are more firm than other cervical pillows on the market today. For cases like these, take your time in using the pillow the whole night. Perhaps start with 10-25 minutes and work your way up from there.

1st Starting With A Neck Pillow...Go Gradual

Have you ever used a neck pillow before? I recently learned the importance and wanted to start... That's great but just be careful. Trying to use it all night your first night with it can leave you quite sore.

I have been using a cervical pillow for years. However, Iam trying one that's a lot more firm. I put it next to mybed to use for an hour or two the first night. I wasn't too concerned because I have been ousting one but someone else may want to use it even less.

I use the Cervical Traction Neck Pillow and now rotate it around to use the Linear Gravity side.

Create a Neck Roll Pillow Instantly from the Pillow You Are Using Right now

For most people, they can go to a Walmart and pick up a 5 dollar fluffy pillow and they can get a great night of sleep.

However, what do you do when you are having neck pain. I am not talking about chronic neck pain- someone who has neck pain every day, all the time. I am talking about that occasional neck pain that you can get. You know- you turned your head wrong, you had a violent sneeze, you were rough playing with your 2 year old and injured your neck.

Okay well in these cases having a contoured neck pillow can be an effective neck pain reliever. A neck pillow with a neck roll on it.

You can do this two ways.

1. You can actually buy a foam or fiber cylinder roll and put that in your pillow. These can be of a firm support or a soft support roll. Usually they are cylinders or half cylinders in shape.

2. You can roll up a towel and place that in your pillow. You can also just use the towel roll as a support under your head and neck.

In Dentistry the trapezius muscle is the main culprit for neck and shoulder pain

Dear friends of ours are dentists. They in turn are friends with more dentists who are specialists of dentistry. Periodontists, endodonists, and orthodontists and off course they work with dental hygenists.... Well they all have something in common because of the type of work that they do. I have noted this through many a conversations with them recently and over the years.

They often have to deal with neck pain, headaches that cause shooting pains, shoulder pain, muscle spasms of the upper back and midback region. The reason is that they are spending large amounts of the day hovering over patients in different positions. Positions that do not forbode well for their necks, shoulders, and even backs. Sometimes they are in these positions for hours.One of the most common used muscles by the dental profession is the trapezius muscle.

In fact, another common condition among dentists and dental hygenists is called trapezius myalgia. The trapezius muscle is often used in almost all dental procedures by the dental professional. Symptoms of trapezius myalgia includes muscle pain, tenderness and muscle spasms.Furthermore trigger points in the trapezius muscle cause referred pain, specifically a headache behind the eye, into the temple and the neck. Studies have shown that this set of symptoms happens on the side of the mirror or the retracting arm.

Well I often have recommendations for them. Things they can do to stay relaxed and free from muscle tension. First I do recommend seeing a chiropractor regularly. Dentists specialize in teeth, and chiropractors specialize in backs and necks. Specifically, getting the proper alignment in the spine is important for posture, and pain relief. Next I often recommend some kind of muscle work. Either at home with a trigger point therapy device or seeing a massage therapist is effective as well. Concentrating on the suboccipitals, cervical paraspinals, upper shoulders, trapezius, rhomboids and scalene muscles is important.

I also recommend using a countoured neck pillow at night to sleep on. One example is the arc4life linear gravity neck pillow. This pillow comes with two different neck rolls that you can sleep on. One firmer, one softer. For something more serious like a pinched nerve in the neck or a neuropathy, I may recommend the arc4life traction pillow.

Also using a tractioning type of device during the day can be equally relaxing and give the muscles a chance to stretch and de- stress. I have had many dentists use the soothe a ciser for themselves just to stretch their own spines out. Another great device that you one can lay on for 10-15 minutes a day is a cervical tractioning pillow.

Here are some more recommendations specifically for the dental profession:

Don't position the patient too high
Use properly selected magnification
Use armrests
Take Frequent Breaks
Manage Stress Appropriately
Use Moist Heat Therapy for chronic pain and stiffness
For Women, don't wear narrow straps on your bras- a racer back or sports bra may be better fit as it does not cut into the trapezius muscle as much.

As with any profession, there are always ways that we tax our bodies. Especially after doing the same repetitive tasks over and over. In the case of dentistry, the trapezius muscle is the most used muscle while on the job. Taking care of peoples teeth is very important- not only for asthetics but also for general health. But as a dentist, they themselves have to care of themselves so that they can keep others peoples teeth healthy. I guess it goes both ways.

The Traction Pillow Gives A Nice Gentle Stretch

Recently I became aware that of an Osteopathic doctor who recommends the arc4life cervical traction neck pillow to her patients. Many of her patients are coming in for neck pain, stiff neck, numbness and tingling and weakness in the upper extremity. She sees many patients who have a herniated disc, bulging disc or degeneration in their cervical spine. She has recommends patients use the pillow for a gentle neck stretch. This is how important it is to put the neck in alignment and free up the nerves. She instructions patient to lay on the pillow for 20 minutes at a time.

This is a great thing to do because you may prescribe someone neck traction to do at home but they may not do it because it is too painful or simply too cumbersome to do at home. Having them use the pillow for traction is one easy alternative to get used to stretching the neck muscles in this way. Furthermore, the patient will not be putting themselves in danger while stretching their neck spine. The cervical linear traction neck pillow lends itself for a gentle neck stretch that relieve a lot of neck pain, numbness and tingling.

There are other ways also to do neck traction without using the complicated over the door neck traction units or other fancy traction machines. For example you can lay on a soothe-a-ciser, or a wear a neck collar that stretches your neck

Why is this so important? Putting that curvature back in the neck is essential for relieving nerve pressure. When the normal curve is there the spinal cord is relaxed and the discs sit properly between each cervical vertebrae. This "C" curve also allows the holes on each side of the spine stay wide open for nerve roots to travel.
